SYMPOSIUM ON DEMENTIA & RESPECT FOR THE ELDERLY
CONDUCTED ON 20/08/2008
Key Speakers
- Dr. Anup Kohli of Apollo Hospitals
Dementia is the loss of mental abilities and most commonly occurs late in life. Of all persons over age 65, 5-8% are demented. This percentage increases considerably with age. The most common form of dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, accounts for 50-75% of all cases of dementia. Another 20-30% is due to blood vessel disease. The remaining cases result from a variety of less common disorders. Dementia is a serious illness that requires much help from a person’s family members, friends and society to manage.
Today, treatment of Dementia is also available but due to lack of awareness about dementia and its treatment, most of the affected elderly could not get benefits of dementia treatment. There is an urgent need to create awareness among older persons, their family members, their care-givers and as well as in society.
On that occasion Dr. Anoop Kohli, Senior consultant neurologist
Speaking about its latest initiative Mr. Himanshu Rath, Founder, Agewell Foundation said, “In furtherance of its professed ideal of providing an honourable healthy & comfortable life to its senior citizens Agewell Foundation is taking a leap forward to create awareness among the society about medical needs & rights of the older persons.”
